Setup a Monthly Budget for Malaysian Family

Hello Malaysian! Living in Malaysia is hard for average makan gaji joe. In time of oil crude price rising up and hard paid job, it time to setup your budget wisely.

Setting up a budget can be a daunting task but is no reason to be intimidated by this process. Once you have set up your budget you can easily see where your money is going and how much you have left to save and spend.

Here some tips:

1) Determine Your Income

You need to know how much money you will have each month to meet your expenses. If you are starting a new job you may want to use a payroll calculator to determine how much money you will bring home each month. You may be surprised at the figure.

Let see, average makan gaji joe can earn about RM2000.00 per month, combine with your wife salary (RM1500), probably your total monthy income is about RM3500 per month. If no other side income, it means your total income is average RM3500 per month.

2) Determine Your Fixed Expenses

Your fixed expenses are items that will not change from month to month. These items can include rent, a car payment, car insurance, your electric bill and your student loan. You should also include savings in this category as well. It is important to pay yourself first. Ideally you should put at least ten percent of your income into savings each month.

• Home Loan: RM800.00
• Car Loan: RM600.00
• Bills (Water, Phone, Internet, ASTRO, Electric): RM300.00
• PTPTN/MARA Loan: RM200.00
• Saving or Insurance: RM250.00

Total: RM2150.00 per month

3) Determine Your Variable Expenses

After you have listed your fixed expenses you will want to determine the amount that you spend on variable expenses. These items may include your groceries, eating out, clothing and entertainment. These are also considered variable because you can cut back on how much you spend on these categories if you need to. You can determine what you spend by reviewing the last two or three months of your transactions in each category.

• Food/Groceries/Goods: RM400.00
• Entertainment/Cigarette/Kedai Mamak: RM250.00
• Cloth/Baby Pampers: RM200.00
• Petrol: RM300.00
• Kid School Tuition/Book/Fees/School Bus: RM200.00

Total: RM1350.00 per month

4) Compare Your Expenses to Your Income

Ideally you should create a budget where your outgoing expenses match your income. If you assign every dollar a specific place this is called a zero-dollar budget. If your amounts do not match you will need to adjust accordingly. You may need to scale back on your variable expenses. If you have extra money at the end of the month, reward yourself by putting that money directly into savings. If you have cut back significantly on your variable expenses and still can not meet your fixed expenses you will need to find ways to change your fixed expenses.

• Total Wages: RM3500.00 per month
• Total Expenditure: RM2150 + RM1350 = RM3500

Google in Malaysia

Last morning, i saw in tv3 news about Google Inc interested to setup base in Malaysia. It sound very good for me as adsense publisher. I hope this news will become reality soon!

DAVOS: Google Inc is interested to set up a base in Malaysia due to its huge ICT market, said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The Prime Minister said the Government’s development plans for the ICT industry were also in line with the company’s expansion programme.

“I was told that Malaysians formed the highest group of Google users in South-East Asia,” he told Malaysian journalists after meeting the US giant’s CEO Eric Schmidt on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum.

It is believed the world’s top Internet search engine company was eyeing Malaysia, India or Vietnam to set up its data centre facilities.

Abdullah said the company felt Malaysia was a good place for the base due to its strategic geographical location.

“They want to make their presence felt in Malaysia. It will be a big boost for our ICT industry,” he said.

Meanwhile, the shift of economic power from the West to the East will be one of the key topics of discussion at the World Economic Forum on East Asia in Kuala Lumpur on June 15 and 16.

This historic transformation must be handled with care, said Institute of Strategic and International Studies (Isis) Malaysia chairman and CEO Datuk Seri Mohamed Jawhar Hassan.

He said this would ensure it could become a productive, constructive transformation.

The meeting will bring together over 350 global and regional leaders in business, politics and intellectual thinkers to discuss opportunities in Asia and the potential risks.

Robots.txt for Top Search Engine Rank

Robots.txt can help you to boosting up your Top Search Engine Rank  as in google.com or yahoo.com. Robots.txt is a text (not html) file you put on your site to tell search robots which pages you would like them not to visit. Robots.txt is by no means mandatory for search engines but generally search engines obey what they are asked not to do. It is important to clarify that robots.txt is not a way from preventing search engines from crawling your site (i.e. it is not a firewall, or a kind of password protection) and the fact that you put a robots.txt file is something like putting a note “Please, do not enter” on an unlocked door – e.g. you cannot prevent thieves from coming in but the good guys will not open to door and enter. That is why we say that if you have really sensitive data, it is too naïve to rely on robots.txt to protect it from being indexed and displayed in search results.

What Is Robots.txt?

The location of robots.txt is very important. It must be in the main directory because otherwise user agents (search engines) will not be able to find it – they do not search the whole site for a file named robots.txt. Instead, they look first in the main directory (i.e. http://mydomain.com/robots.txt) and if they don’t find it there, they simply assume that this site does not have a robots.txt file and therefore they index everything they find along the way. So, if you don’t put robots.txt in the right place, do not be surprised that search engines index your whole site.

Tools to Generate and Validate a Robots.txt File

Having in mind the simple syntax of a robots.txt file, you can always read it to see if everything is OK but it is much easier to use a validator, like this one: http://tool.motoricerca.info/robots-checker.phtml. These tools report about common mistakes like missing slashes or colons, which if not detected compromise your efforts.

For instance, if you have typed:

User agent: *
Disallow: /temp/

This is wrong because there is no slash between “user” and “agent” and the syntax is incorrect.
In those cases, when you have a complex robots.txt file – i.e. you give different instructions to different user agents or you have a long list of directories and subdirectories to exclude, writing the file manually can be a real pain. But do not worry – there are tools that will generate the file for you. What is more, there are visual tools that allow pointing and selecting which files and folders are to be excluded. But even if you do not feel like buying a graphical tool for robots.txt generation, there are online tools to assist you. For instance, the Server-Side Robots Generator offers a dropdown list of user agents and a text box for you to list the files you don’t want indexed. Honestly, it is not much of a help, unless you want to set specific rules for different search engines because in any case it is up to you to type the list of directories but is more than nothing.

No More Adsense Referrals for Malaysia

The worst has come. Google will end the referral of Google Adsense referral product in the next incoming January 2008. Do you refer a lot of people to Google Adsense and are you NOT based in North America, Latin America, or Japan? Then you will be making a lot less money starting February. Are live and do blogging in Malaysia? So you also will see slightly lower income in next Febuary 2008.

Since about a year ago AdSense referrals earned you $5 within 180 days of sign-up if the person you signed up generated at least $5. When that publisher earned $100 within 180 days you’d receive $250. Lots of blogs, small business and even some high traffic sites have been displaying these badges for years now and have been making a lot of money from them too. But now Google has decided to kill the referrals program because it “has not performed as well as we had hoped”. Well, except in North America, Latin America, and Japan.

“If you’re outside of North America, Latin America, and Japan, AdSense referrals will be retired.” It was shocking news.

They also said “We’ve found that this referral product has not performed as well as we had hoped in these regions. Again, please keep in mind that you can still generate referrals for the other products listed under the ‘Referrals’ section of your AdSense Setup tab.”

“Soon, you’ll no longer see the option to create a referral button for AdSense in your account, although existing buttons will display as normal. This specific referral type will then be retired during the last week of January”

It very sad to heard this news and no more adsense referrals for Malaysia blogs

Gokul Rajaram: Godfather of Adsense

You probably enjoy your adsense income these days but do you know who made Adsense alive? Adsense started been made by Gokul Rajaram with his four engineers in early 2003. In 2^nd November 2007, he leaving Google Inc and starting his own company.

When Gokul Rajaram joined the company in January 2003, Brin and Wojcicki were cooking up an idea to sell advertising space to run relevant ads on publishers’ websites. Sergey had a mandate to launch it in June 2003. So we had less than six months.”

Gokul Rajaram considered staying on to handle the integration of DoubleClick, the display-advertising network that Google announced in April it was acquiring for $3.1 billion. But he says he misses working on a small team and he hopes to recreate the startup environment when he launches his own company.

“When we started AdSense, it was just me and four engineers,”Gokul Rajaram says. “The night before we launched, Sergey spent five hours with me testing the system and pointing out bugs.”

Maximize Adsense Income with Simple Adsense Tips

The absolute number one key to making money with AdSense is DRIVING TRAFFIC to your website. This is where the big adsense money comes in. BUT, you have to build a GREAT site first.

ADSENSE TIP #1

Make sure that your adblocks blend with your site. The internet is full of junk and advertising. When surfers are looking for information they instinctively look away, skipping over advertisements to find what they came for. It’s actually been termed “Banner Blindness”. Flashing, blinking, blinding websites are a thing of the past as marketers learn that virtual shouting doesnt work, as people are covering their ears (or eyes in this case). Basically, your visitors will skip right over them.

Adblocks that work the best seem to be the 336×280, or one of the square blocks inserted near a few other links and close to your main text.

• Content on your site should be similar in size and color to the adblocks to help the ads blend.

• Match the border color and background color to the background color on your web page.

• Match also the title, text and url colors to the ones you are using on your page. If your logo and headlines are green, make your title the same green. If your text is gray, match this gray, and if your links are blue, match the same blue.

You may also want to experiment with text ads and image ads. You can choose on or the other, or both.

ADSENSE TIP #2

Keep your adblocks “Above the Fold”.
By above the fold, I mean visible on your website without having to scroll down. Your ads should be in a place where people will look.

Another good placement is the tower type ad, off to the right of your main copy. As a viewer reaches the end of a line, it’s a good place for their eye to rest. If an ad is close by, it’s more likely to catch a viewer’s eye.

Google allows you up to 3 adblocks, and 1 linkblock on a page. I believe its better to keep it simple and just use 1 or 2 adblocks and if your site has a verticle list of links, you may wish to add a link block near this.

Good Keyword for Search Engine Rankings

You may know how important good keyword rich text is on your website for good search engine rankings, but do you know how to write effective text with good keywords? Well first it’s very important to determine what your keywords are. Going to a site like Overture’s Keyword Selector Tool and typing in a few of the keywords that you think are the most important and seeing which ones rank higher should be your first stop. Then you can subtlely integrate the words in your text. However don’t sound like you’re forcing it, just type natural phrasing and make it readable so it’s not obvious you’re keyword stuffing.

Keyword density has grown much speculation amongst SEO experts. Some agree that keywords are important but there is no exact percentage that you should meet, while others seem to think having your keywords at least 1-4% of your text is the magic bullet. There is no way to be absoltely certain and with Google and other search engines changing their algorithms all the time, both ways could certainly be right.

Anyhow there are some things you can be certain about when writing good keyword rich text.

1. Most good keyword phrases are 2-5 words in length.
These are the search phrases that most surfers will use to find your website. It’s actually better to keep your keyword phrases longer than shorter. It cuts down on competition and it’s been proven that shorter keyword searchers are shoppers while longer keyword searchers are BUYERS. Having the keyword phrase “tennis balls” is too hard to rank for and if you do get a high listing, too hard to keep. While “yellow Dunlop tennis balls” would be much easier and it attracts people who are looking for a specific thing.

2. Only use a few keyword phrases per page.
You cannot optimize a page with 20 different keyword phrases. If your site can target many different keywords, spread them out across several pages. If you try to bunch them in all on one page, not only will you sound obviously like you’re trying to stuff your keywords but you’ll also have the adverse effect on your rankings. The search engines will not know exactly what term to rank you for out of so many so you will have worse rankings.
